What Cuties

Spirit of Christ Catholic Community met in the court yard to have the blessing of the animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. What a variety of big, little, cute, odd, and fun beasties. Some were quiet while others barked and one attacked two long haired cats. There was a frantic moment while the dog was brought under control. Among the cats and dogs there was a gerbil, a hamster and a hedgehog. Three large, long-haired cats were beautiful and I was told one cat was fifteen years old.

Around one-thirty, a general prayer was said and then the pastor went around and sprinkled each pet with holy water and blessed them.

Such proud "parents!" They held the small animals up to Father with so much love and gratitude. The larger dogs accepted getting splashed in the face and everyone seemed happy that their "babies" were blessed. What surprised me was the fact that each animal had its own special beauty and personality.

You can see for yourself in the pictures below!

"Until one has loved an animal,
a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Anatole France
