On The Road Again

Our three day journey to Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico began on May 31 and continued on June 1st and 2nd. I was leading the "pilgrimage" and our first stop was at a McDonald's in Pueblo. One of my favorite things is seeing people making new friends and sharing experiences. This first stop is one where the "Getting to Know You" song comes to mind.

 One of the travelers baked the New Mexican State cookie called a Biscochito and they were in the shape of a cross. What a wonderful snack to eat on the bus!

Our next stop was San Luis, Colorado, where the Stations of the Cross created by Huberto Maestes are located. The majority of the people walked up the hill and viewed the spectacular sculptures of the Passion of Christ. At Sangre de Cristo parish hall we ate lunch prepared by the seminarians and I took a picture of the mural painted by using the townspeople as models.

After lunch we headed for Taos where we would see the Mysterious Painting and the most photographed church in Taos at St. Francis of Assisi parish. The sad thing was that the church is being re-adobed (not sure that is a word) and there was a crane and other equipment making photography of the church limited! We had to wait for the care taker to open the doors for us and once we entered we found the inside of the church quaint and beautiful. I love to see the altar screens in many of the churches in New Mexico.

Sagebrush Inn and Suites was our next destination for dinner and then to relax and rest. A few of the travelers tried to find a place to go gamble but I never heard if they made it to a casino or not! This had been our first day on the road and the next day will be continued in my next blog.
