Overheard At A Baseball Game

Three ladies had free tickets to attend a Colorado Rockies game on Sunday, September 20, 2015. They were able to park in a handicap zone which is quite close to one of the entrances of Coors Field. At the gate someone scanned their ticket and looked into their purse. There were many purple shirts milling around the gigantic rotunda filled with popcorn, lemonade, chocolate covered fruit, beer, hot dogs, peanuts, and Rockies clothing.

The ladies found row 31 and sat down. The day was perfect and the ladies sat behind the Padre's dugout under a cover that kept the hot sun away. It was difficult to talk because of all the background music and announcements that blared from all directions. "Dinger" danced and ran up and down the field before the game began. After introduction of all the players and a girl threw in the first ball, the game began. It appeared that it was going to be an exciting game when number 19, Charles Blackmon hit a home run.  The sad thing was that it was the only run the Rockies had until over half way into the game. The score ended at 10-4.

The conversation between the three ladies went something like this:

Does C stand for captain?
No, it stands for catcher.
Why are you clapping?
Didn't we just get an out?
That's San Diego that made us out!
Padres are dark..
Oh, I thought we were dark, aren't we purple?
Rockies are white today.

Hey, most of these players are 6' tall.
They don't look that tall down on the field.
Oh, look, there is a short player.
That's the bat boy!
Thank goodness for the big screen.
What is your health insurance?
What do you pay monthly?
Are you with Kaiser?
Rockies are up to bat.
I wish the Rockies would do something.
Why is everyone standing up?
It's called the 7th inning stretch.
In the U.S. the name Gonzalez ends with an "s."
The field sure looks pretty.
I wonder how they do it to get that checkerboard effect.
Can you believe water is $4.00
Look at that fruit stick, it's $6.50
It could be dangerous if a ball comes our way.
Has anyone ever been knocked out by getting hit with a ball?
Now, why are you clapping?
Ooops.

The sporadic conversation continued most of the afternoon. Maybe the game wasn't completely understood, maybe the ladies did not quite know the rules or the players, but it was a fun and exciting time being in a pulsing, cheering, clapping group of people!
