Book Club Meets in a Beautiful Garden

Our monthly book club met today at a member's home and enjoyed sitting in her patio and looking at her yard. The discussion of True Believers by Kurt Andersen was interesting, and as usual, branched out into other subjects. After the meeting, we wandered through the lush, green yard. This yard is an exceptional example of what hard work, diligence and as the host put it, money, can do to transform a dirt hill into a plush green hill with greenery and flowers. A picture of her yard in 1975 shows flat lands to the west of Wadsworth and an empty dirt hill behind the house. She told us that it has taken many years to accomplish the green hill she now enjoys.  

 I especially liked a weather-worn St. Francis bird feeder. The troughs are homemade and originated in England or Ireland but our hostess made the ones in her yard. In the past they were used to feed or water animals, but in the United States they
are popular as planters. The yard is as if we were in a vacation spot far away from the busy street of Wadsworth, the golf course, or the shopping mall.

The book club was grateful to have their meeting in such a beautiful place.
